How To Prevent A Hack Like The Ransomware Attack
Kaseya, a company that sells software to other companies to help them manage their computer networks, confirmed that its systems were penetrated via a software susceptibility. Its chief executive, Fred Voccola, stated that the company took action and shut down the compromised program within an hour of noting the attack, thus stopping the hacker from potentially striking more businesses. The company estimated that the hack might have affected about 800 to 1,500 minor businesses, making it one of the biggest ransomware attacks ever.

Some days after the attack, the evidence was still not conclusive, and the company was unsure of the extent of damage to the affected business. The company vends its software to thousands of software companies that also serve thousands of clients. This means that the company, directly and indirectly, serves close to a million clients worldwide. Some ways to help you prevent such and other ransomware attacks are listed below:
- Always keep your operating system up-to-date and patched. This will make sure that there are lesser vulnerabilities to exploit in your system.
- Have antivirus software in your system to ensure that ransomware and other malicious programs are detected early as they get in your system and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Ensure that you back up your files automatically and regularly. While this doesn’t stop an attack, it will ensure that you can always retrieve your documents in case of one.
- Never install and give software admin privileges unless you know its source and what it particularly does.
